WOW, what a  HUGE WEEKEND!!!!

This years running of the WASCF Street Stock Championship at Laurance Scrap Metals Ellenbrook Speedway must be regarded as a huge success both on and off the track.
The Weekends festivities kicked off in fine style on Friday with a very well organized Calcutta being run. Having been to many Calcutta’s over the years for many different divisions of speedway, it was indeed refreshing to be at one in which every person in attendance thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The ladies of the Ellenbrook Speedway put on a superb spread, which at a measly $10 was a bargain. Even Frank Spencer came to the party thanks to Shane Winch-Buist.

Warm weather and a cloudless sky greeted what would have to be the strongest field in recent history, with the 65 entrants containing 3 former National Champions and the last 4 State Champions. Everyone of the 18 heats held on Saturday produced fast and furious action, unbelievably there were 16 different heat winners with only South Australian Anthony Beare being the only multiple winner.

Sunday saw Mt Gambier hard charger Beare being the focal point on everyone’s mind, just how was he going to be stopped?  Well after the final round of heats had been run and won Anthony Beare was still undefeated, when asked about going through the heats unbeaten Beare was very forthright in saying he had been in the same position before and finished up as a dnf so he still had plenty of work still to do. With a bumper crowd filling every vantage point to watch the day’s action Beare then proceeded completely demolish the hopes of every Western Australian driver with a dominating display which saw him leading the 35 lap A Main by just over half a lap before the South Australian started to have engine dramas 3 laps from home. With engine temperatures climbing and the motor sounding very sick Beare took the white flag in front of a hard charging Michael Hamon and Stephan Cooper, Beare was able to hang on to win the title before his motor expired only half a lap after taking the checkered flag. Hamon finished 2nd ahead of Cooper in 3rd, whilst local drivers Daniel Ameduri, Damien Amato, Jason Oldfield finished in front of Narrogin driver Frank Kulker, defending state champ Daniel Pindala from Carnarvon and Mark Furphy from Narrogin.

Once again the Ladies of the Ellenbook Club worked tirelessly to make the Presentation a huge success with another great meal whist plenty of bench racing and socializing was taking place. When asked about the success of the weekend Club President Fab Martinelli was quick to praise his team of tirelessly working members and there families, with a special mention to his track staff. Martinelli stressed the fact that this meeting was a great test run to see where the club is at in preparation to the running of next years Australian Street Stock Championship.
